The uses for these durable Spheres are limited only by ones imagination and include: ealing, meditation, photography, canopy research, hunting & leisure.Free Spirit Spheres can be hung from the trees as shown, making a tree house. They can also be hung from any other solid objects or placed in cradles on the ground. There are four attachment points on the top of each sphere and another four anchor points on the bottom. Each of the attachment points is strong enough to carry the weight of the entire sphere and contents.
The spheres are made of two laminations of wood strips over laminated wood frames. The outside surface is then finished and covered with a clear fibreglass. The result is a beautiful and very tough skin. The skin is waterproof and strong enough to take the impacts that come with life in a dynamic environment such as the forest. Equally durable reproductions of these wooden Spheres are now available in fibreglass, reducing the cost of a completed Sphere significantly.

A Radial Timber Australia foi inovativa, criativa e tradicional ao mesmo tempo, empregando uma técnica antiga para mudar o paradigma de produção de madeira para construção.Em termos de "cortes" de madeira, as técnicas tradicionais tentam fazer perfis de seção retangular a partir de troncos de seção circular. Esses "cortes", além do "trabalho" geométrico, que resulta em excesso de sobras, requerem secagens cuidadosas e tratamentos especiais. Para impedir, por exemplo, as fibras da madeira de, devido à tensão residual, tentarem voltar à sua configuração original, na forma de farpas encurvadas, que se soltam da madeira em forma de paralelepípedo. Para impedir rachaduras. Para impedir o empenamento da peça cortada, que embora mantendo a seção retangular, deixa de ser reta. Por outro lado o corte radial, corta o tronco em fatias, assim como se divide uma pizza. A madeira cortada de forma radial empena muito menos e aproveita muito mais o tronco.

mais coming around sobre ambientalismos: o neorecreacionismo e a ilusão da restauração ecológica
No último número da Harvard Design Magazine tem um ótimo artigo sobre como as preocupações ecológicas, assim como outros temas polarizadores (desarmamento, terrorismo, globalização etc) andam influenciando negativamente o design ambiental, possibilitando "enganações" de tom moralista. O autor reclama do perigo da utilização de espécies exóticas invasivas (em vez de nativas) em projetos de restauração ambiental, no que ele chama de "ajardinação do paisagismo" (ou algo assim), por culpa da "ecologia versão Disney" (estável e previsível). Como o autor também é contra o paisagismo só de espécies nativas, conclui-se que, na verdade, ele é contra a influência desses temas polarizadores, cujo caráter moralista empobrece a discussão, com alegações supostamente absolutas.

O IBGE pensou melhor e descobriu que o deficit habitacional não é aquelas coisas todas que o povo enche a boca para dar aula no boteco. O deficit de 7,2 milhões de moradias tem um erro de pelo menos 3,1 milhões. Por exemplo: Co-habitação: Quando duas famílias moram numa mesma casa (filhos, sogra etc que moram junto), os pesquisadores consideram que falta uma moradia. Só que mais de 50% dessas pessoas têm renda acima de 10 salários mínimos e não querem morar separado. Outro indício de erro é que outros dados dizem que há 6 milhões de domicílios vagos (prontos para venda ou aluguel, sem contar os abandonados ou inativos). Outro erro, este de caráter metodológico, é utilizar dados censitários para calcular deficit de moradias (é preciso fazer conceitualizações demais, como achar que quem casa, quer casa, logo todo recém casado sem casa entra para o deficit). Mais um indício preocupante é que no documento Política Nacional de Habitação, publicado há alguns meses pelo Ministério das Cidades, se reconhece que não há informações qualificadas sobre a demanda habitacional. Certamente há um deficit habitacional enorme, mas... Ou seja... Isso que dá acreditar em estatística...

Seca, a areia flui como água (não forma uma estrutura). Quando a areia é derramada na água, por não se molhar, ela pode ser moldada em estruturas e manter a forma. Quando a água é derramada para fora, a areia se mostra seca, e sem forma como no começo.
